The Sherline Zero Adjustable Handwheel 2″ Y Axis (Metric) offers machinists the ability to reset the handwheel to zero or any desired setting during machining operations. This feature, commonly found in full-size machine tools, is now available for Sherline’s miniature machine tools. The handwheel is easily installed by releasing a single set screw, allowing for quick and efficient operation. By releasing the black locking nut and adjusting the red handwheel collar to zero, users can precisely control the feed amount without the need for complex calculations, thereby minimizing errors and saving time.
This handwheel is designed to replace standard 1 handwheels with a 2 adjustable version, providing enhanced functionality. While larger 2 handwheels are available, they are not recommended for simultaneous use on the lathe leadscrew and tailstock due to potential interference. However, they can be utilized elsewhere on the machine. The handwheel is available in both inch and metric versions, catering to diverse measurement preferences.
For the Z-axis of the mill or vertical milling column, a special 2 diameter handwheel is available, equipped with a ball thrust bearing set to alleviate stress from the vertical lifting action. This feature is particularly beneficial for newer machines, though older models can be upgraded to incorporate this advanced technology. Engraved numbers on the collars are oriented for optimal readability depending on the axis of installation, ensuring ease of use and accuracy in operation.
