This feature allows a maximum diameter stock of 3/16 inches or 4.5mm to pass entirely through the collet and drawbar. Collets exceeding this diameter are often referred to as ‘pot’ chucks. The set includes a WW style collet taper adapter, a drawbar, and five WW collets, all manufactured by Sherline to adhere to standard WW specifications.
It is important to verify compatibility when using WW collets from other manufacturers, as they may not fit the Sherline drawbar and adapter. Sherline also offers a slightly larger .315-inch adapter and drawbar set to accommodate some alternative brands. The collets are engineered to achieve a maximum runout of .002 inches or less, ensuring precision when the WW collet adapter is trued as per the instructions. Collet sizes above 3/16 inches are not bored through but are instead bored to a depth of .260 inches, which may result in increased runout depending on the setup and part length.
Note: The WW collet adapter does not include a keyway pin for the collets, but this has not posed any issues for users over the past forty years.
