The Sherline Tapered Headstock w/Dovetail Base 3/4-16 #1m Taper, V Belt is a precision-engineered component designed for industrial applications, drawing inspiration from the headstock used in Sherline’s lathe and milling machines. Constructed from extruded 6061-T6 aluminum, it features a durable black anodized finish. This headstock is equipped with a 3/4-16 #1M taper spindle and a standard 2-step V belt pulley configuration, ensuring compatibility with various machining setups.
The headstock incorporates lifetime lubricated bearings with adjustable preload, classified as Class 5 for enhanced accuracy and smoother operation. These bearings are capable of supporting continuous speeds up to approximately 4,000 RPM, with the potential to reach up to 10,000 RPM with a slightly adjusted preload setting. The dovetailed base includes a brass gib, which fits seamlessly with Sherline’s steel dovetailed bed and column material, providing a stable and precise mounting solution.
For ease of installation, the headstock features a mounting point for attaching a saddle nut on Sherline leadscrews. The spindle is equipped with a dust cover washer, although it is not entirely sealed, necessitating caution in environments with dust or coolant exposure. The design includes a .405-inch through hole, allowing for the passage of long stock, though it is recommended for light-duty applications.
Note: The spindle is not intended for high RPM rotation of long or out-of-round parts, and exposure to dust or coolant can significantly reduce bearing life.
