The Sherline Square Headstock w/ Flat Base ER-16 is a precision-engineered component designed for industrial applications, drawing its design from the headstock used in Sherline lathes and milling machines. Constructed from extruded 6061-T6 aluminum, it features a durable black anodized finish. This headstock is equipped with an ER-16 spindle, which is known for its versatility and precision.

The headstock incorporates lifetime lubricated bearings with adjustable preload, ensuring smooth and quiet operation. These Class 5 bearings offer enhanced accuracy and tighter tolerances, allowing for a continuous speed of up to 4,000 RPM, with the potential to reach 10,000 RPM with a slight adjustment in preload settings. The design includes a dust cover for the spindle bearing, although it is not completely sealed, necessitating caution in environments with dust or coolant exposure.

Mounting the headstock is facilitated by two 1/4-20 mounting holes and an alignment key slot on the flat base, ensuring precise positioning on fixtures or machines. The ER-16 collet nut is included with the spindle headstock, providing additional functionality. The headstock’s design allows for a .405-inch through hole, accommodating long stock, though it is recommended for light-duty applications.

Note: The spindle is not intended for high RPM rotation of long or out-of-round parts, and exposure to dust or coolant can significantly reduce bearing life.
