The Sherline Square Headstock w/ Flat Base 3/4-16 #1 Taper is a precision-engineered component designed for use in industrial applications, drawing its design from the headstock used on Sherline lathes and milling machines. Constructed from extruded 6061-T6 aluminum, it features a durable black anodized finish. This headstock is equipped with a 3/4-16 #1 Morse taper spindle, ensuring compatibility with a range of machining tasks.
The headstock incorporates lifetime lubricated bearings with adjustable preload, classified as Class 5 for enhanced accuracy, tighter tolerances, and smoother operation. These bearings support continuous speeds up to approximately 4,000 RPM, with the potential for adjustment to accommodate speeds up to 10,000 RPM. The headstock’s design includes two 1/4-20 mounting holes and an alignment key slot on the flat base, facilitating secure and precise installation on various fixtures or machines.
The spindle is designed for versatility, featuring a .405-inch through hole that allows long stock to pass through. However, it is intended for light-duty applications and is not recommended for rotating long or out-of-round parts at high RPMs. The spindle is equipped with a dust cover to protect the bearings, though it is not fully sealed, and exposure to dust or coolant can reduce bearing life.
Note: Operators should ensure the spindle setup is adequate and safe for the intended job, and the spindle should not be used in a coolant bath or exposed to excessive dust.
