The Sherline CNC-Ready Single-Axis Machine Slide w/ Dovetailed Headstock & Motor ER-16 (Metric) is a precision-engineered tool designed for advanced machining applications. It features a robust steel bed with ground dovetails, ensuring stability and accuracy during operations. The leadscrew, available in metric, is precision rolled from steel and positioned beneath the table to protect it from debris, with adjustable backlash for enhanced precision.
This machine slide is equipped with a CNC stepper motor mount, complemented by a 1-5/8 inch laser-engraved aluminum handwheel, which is graduated in 0.01 mm increments for precise adjustments. The base offers versatile mounting options, allowing for secure installation from either the top or bottom, using the provided angle clamps and socket head cap screws.
The headstock is crafted from extruded 6061-T6 aluminum with a black anodized finish, offering durability and a sleek appearance. It is fitted with an ER-16 spindle, which includes a collet nut and a brass gib that fits the Sherline steel dovetailed bed and column material. The spindle is designed for light-duty applications, featuring a 10 mm through hole for versatility, though it is not intended for high RPM or out-of-round parts.
Powering the machine is a 90-volt DC motor, known for delivering maximum torque at low RPM, which is crucial for effective machining. This motor provides smoother and quieter operations compared to AC/DC motors of similar size. It includes a V-step pulley with two positions, allowing for adjustments between high-speed, low-torque and low-speed, high-torque settings. The motor’s variable speed control ranges from 70 to 2800 RPM, with a load compensating circuit to maintain constant RPM. It accepts input from 100 VAC to 240 VAC, automatically converting it to 90V DC output.
Note: The spindle is not fully sealed and should not be exposed to coolant baths or excessive dust, as this can significantly reduce bearing life.
