The Sherline CNC-Ready Single-Axis Machine Slide w/ Dovetailed Headstock & Motor, 3/4-16 #1m Taper is a sophisticated tool designed for precision machining tasks. It features a robust steel bed with ground dovetails, ensuring stability and accuracy during operations. The leadscrew, available in both inch and metric options, is precision rolled from steel and positioned beneath the table to avoid interference from chips, with adjustable backlash for enhanced precision.
This machine slide is equipped with a CNC stepper motor mount, allowing for seamless integration with a stepper motor. The included 1-5/8-inch laser-engraved aluminum handwheel is graduated in fine increments, facilitating precise manual adjustments. The base offers versatile mounting options, with provisions for secure attachment from either the bottom or the top using angle clamps.
The headstock is crafted from extruded 6061-T6 aluminum with a black anodized finish, providing durability and a sleek appearance. It is compatible with a 3/4-16 #1M taper spindle, which includes a brass gib on the dovetailed base for smooth operation. The spindle is designed for light-duty applications and features a dust cover to protect the bearings, although it is not fully sealed against dust or coolant.
Powering the machine is a 90-volt DC motor, which delivers maximum torque at low RPM, making it ideal for machining tasks that require high power at lower speeds. The motor operates quietly and smoothly, with a variable speed electronic control ranging from 70 to 2800 RPM. The speed control unit is versatile, accepting input from 100 to 240 VAC and converting it to 90V DC output, ensuring consistent performance across different power sources.
Note: The spindle is not designed for high RPM operations with long or out-of-round parts, and exposure to dust or coolant can significantly reduce bearing life.
