The Sherline CNC-Ready Mill Upgrade Kit – Complete 5800 Mill Upgrade (“) is designed to transform any existing Sherline vertical mill into a CNC-ready machine. This conversion process involves precise drilling and tapping to attach stepper motor mounts, ensuring the machine is prepared for CNC control. The kit includes drill blocks that facilitate accurate hole placement by using the existing hole as a guide, allowing for the creation of two new holes. Once drilled, these holes are tapped, and the new mounts are securely installed. Additionally, the installation of a new leadscrew is required for the mill column, and comprehensive instructions are provided to guide users through the conversion process.
CNC-ready status indicates that the machine is prepared for the attachment of stepper motors, which can then be controlled via a CNC system supplied by the user. For those unable to develop their own CNC system, various aftermarket suppliers offer compatible stepper motors, drivers, and CNC software to complete the setup.
