The Sherline 13″ Lathe Crosslide Assembly CNC Ready 4088 (Inch) is designed for those seeking to transform their Sherline lathe into a Chucker Lathe or a gang-tooling lathe. This crosslide is notably thicker than the standard model, measuring .870 inches, which necessitates the use of a headstock riser plate to align tooling with the headstock. This modification allows the crosslide to accommodate multiple gang-tooling tool posts, enhancing its utility for specialized machining tasks.
However, the increased thickness and the requirement for a riser plate mean that the tailstock cannot be used in conjunction with this setup, as there is no riser available for the tailstock. Consequently, parts cannot be turned between centers, and certain accessories, such as the thread-cutting attachment, are incompatible with this crosslide.
The crosslide is CNC-ready, featuring a CNC leadscrew, a standard 1-5/8 inch handwheel, and a stepper motor mount. It is equipped with factory-installed mounts suitable for 23-frame size stepper motors, and dual-shaft stepper motors are recommended for those who wish to retain manual control capabilities.
