The Pololu Zumo 2040 Robot Kit (No Motors) is a sophisticated and compact tracked robot kit designed for enthusiasts and developers. It is based on the Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller, featuring a 32-bit dual-core Arm Cortex-M0+ processor. This kit provides a versatile platform for programming and customization, supporting languages such as C++, Arduino, and Python. The robot’s compact size, measuring less than 10 cm on each side, makes it suitable for Mini Sumo competitions, while its advanced features allow for a wide range of applications beyond sumo battles.
The Zumo 2040 is equipped with integrated dual motor drivers, quadrature encoders, and a comprehensive inertial measurement unit, which includes a 3-axis accelerometer, gyro, and magnetometer. It also features line sensors, side and front proximity sensors, and a graphical OLED display for user feedback. The robot’s design includes six RGB LEDs and a buzzer, enhancing its interactive capabilities. Users can access the microcontrollers I/O lines and power rails for further customization through 0.1-spaced through-holes.
This kit requires assembly, including soldering, and does not include motors, batteries, or a USB-C cable, which are necessary for operation. The Zumo 2040’s chassis is designed to work with micro metal gearmotors, allowing users to select motors based on their desired performance characteristics. The robot operates on four AA batteries, with both alkaline and NiMH types being compatible.
