This comprehensive kit comprises essential mechanical components, including two motors, two white wheels, a blue ball caster, and battery contacts, facilitating immediate assembly and operation. The Romi chassis is a differential-drive mobile robot platform with a 6.5-inch (165 mm) diameter and an integrated battery holder accommodating six AA batteries (not included). The design features drive wheels positioned on the circular base plate’s diameter, enabling precise turns and on-the-spot spinning. A large, fixed ball caster at the rear ensures a stable third contact point, with the option to add a second ball caster at the front. The chassis incorporates 708mm Pololu wheels and Mini Plastic Gearmotors with extended backshafts, supporting the addition of quadrature encoders for position feedback. With a multitude of general-purpose mounting holes and slots compatible with various screw sizes, this chassis allows for the secure attachment of electronics such as microcontrollers, motor drivers, and sensors. The plastic components are available in six colors, either individually for replacement or customization, or as part of kits that include motors and battery contacts.
