The Pololu 3pi+ 2040 Robot Kit w/ 75:1 LP Motors (Turtle Edition Kit) is a compact, high-performance mobile platform that utilizes the Raspberry Pi RP2040 MCU. This kit provides all the necessary components to construct the Turtle Edition version, inclusive of a pair of 75:1 LP 6V Micro Metal Gearmotors. The 3pi+ is equipped with a multitude of features such as dual quadrature encoders for precise speed or position control, line sensors, front bump sensors, a comprehensive IMU (3-axis accelerometer, magnetometer, and gyro), six RGB LEDs, and a graphical OLED display.

The 3pi+ 2040 is a versatile, high-performance, user-programmable robot with a diameter of just 9.7 cm (3.8 inches). It is powered by a Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller, a 32-bit dual-core Arm Cortex-M0+ processor running at 125 MHz, which can be programmed with C++, Arduino, or Python. The 3pi+ 2040 comes with 16 MB (128 Mbit) of flash memory that is preloaded with a MicroPython interpreter. For those who wish to customize or enhance their robots with additional peripherals, the robots power rails, power system controls, and microcontrollers I/O lines can be accessed via several 0.1-inch pitch expansion ports.

The 3pi+ 2040 is equipped with two H-bridge motor drivers and a variety of integrated sensors, including a pair of quadrature encoders for closed-loop motor control, a complete inertial measurement unit (3-axis accelerometer, gyro, and magnetometer), five downward-facing reflectance sensors for line-following or edge-detection, and left and right bump sensors along the front face of the robot. The robot also includes three onboard pushbuttons for user input, a 128×64 graphical OLED display, a buzzer, and six RGB LEDs for feedback provision.

The robot features a unique power system that maintains the motors at a constant 8 V, irrespective of the battery charge level, ensuring the speed of the motors does not fluctuate with the battery voltage.

The Turtle Edition 3pi+ 2040 Robot, which this kit is designed to build, has a top speed of approximately 0.4 m/s and is ideal for applications where slow, controlled speed is crucial, such as coordinated swarm robots and introductory robotics courses. Assembly, including soldering, is required.
