The AndyMark Climber in a Box Stage 2 is an innovative and adaptable solution designed for climbing challenges in FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) end game periods. Developed in collaboration with FRC Team 3940 CyberTooth, this kit has been rigorously tested for reliability, ensuring consistent performance in competitive environments. It features a ‘spring out, winch back’ powertrain strategy, utilizing off-the-shelf 3.5lb constant force springs and 3 mm Dyneema Rope, to efficiently elevate and retract the included Hook Kit. The Climber in a Box is compatible with a wide range of off-the-shelf planetary gearboxes, accommodating a 2″ bolt circle mounting pattern and a 2″ long 1/2″ hex output shaft. The bearing kits are engineered to transition from 2″ square aluminum tubing to a 1″ square tube, with an intermediate 1.5″ square tube, facilitating a smooth telescoping mechanism without 3D printed parts. Each stage allows for a maximum travel of 24.5″ and the kit is designed to be assembled without precision machining, with pre-cut tubes and plates that serve as drill guides. This unassembled kit includes essential components such as the Hook Kit, Tubing Bearing Kits, and Winch Kit, providing a comprehensive setup for enhancing team performance at competitions.
