The AndyMark 2.25in. HD Mecanum Vectored Intake Wheel Set is a robust solution commonly utilized in the front intake rollers of FIRST Robotics Competition robots. These wheels are adept at organizing game pieces on the floor before they enter the robot, effectively extending the intake’s width to draw pieces from the corners. Additionally, they facilitate the serialization of game pieces within a conveyor system inside the robot, complementing the 2.25 in. Compliant Wheels. Constructed from high-strength materials, these wheels are engineered to endure the demanding conditions of FRC match play, with rollers designed for enhanced retention during high-impact scenarios on the playing field.
The wheel set is provided as an unassembled kit, requiring assembly with the included Allen wrenches. The configuration of the wheels is crucial when used as drive wheels for a small robot platform. A traditional set comprises two “right” and two “left” wheels, which must be arranged in an “X” pattern when viewed from above to ensure proper functionality of a Mecanum drive holonomic system. This arrangement involves placing the “right” wheels at the front right and rear left positions, while the “left” wheels are positioned at the front left and rear right.
The design features six nylon rollers that rotate smoothly on high-strength steel axles, secured into steel side plates. These plates interface with polycarbonate hubs, enhancing the bending strength of each roller seat. The assembly is maintained by the tension in the roller axles, with steel roll pins ensuring alignment.
