The Robot Power Scorpion XXL Dual Channel R/C Motor Controller 20A, 6-28V w/ Enclosure & Fan is a versatile and high-performance motor controller designed for small to medium-sized mobile robots, including competition firefighting robots, sumo robots, and robotic combat applications. It is capable of managing robots weighing up to 90 pounds, provided the motor current limits are adhered to. Additionally, it is suitable for various non-robotic applications such as controlling lights and hydraulic valves.
This motor controller features dual channels, each capable of handling 20A continuous current, with a peak of 45A. When equipped with fan cooling, it can manage up to 25A continuous current. It operates within a battery voltage range of 6.0V to 28V and includes comprehensive current and temperature limiting features, making it highly reliable and nearly impervious to damage.
The Scorpion XXL offers a range of control options, including reversible H-bridge channels, flip control for inverted operation, and channel mixing or separate control. It also provides options for brake/coast at zero speed and linear/exponential steering response. The device is equipped with indicator LEDs for speed and direction, as well as a status LED for R/C signal monitoring.
A switching style 5V regulator ensures stable operation across the voltage range, supporting newer 2.4GHz radio receivers. The standard receiver battery eliminator circuit can supply up to 200 mA of current at 5V. Safety features include a failsafe mechanism that shuts off motors if the R/C signal is lost, and a calibration function to synchronize the controller with the radio or signal source, with settings stored in EEPROM.
The Scorpion XXL is built around a FLASH-based microcontroller with upgradeable software via an in-circuit programming header. It includes remote power switch connections for convenient power management. An optional plastic enclosure is available to protect the unit from environmental factors and to mount the cooling fan, which can be customized by the user for specific applications.
