The Muscle Wire – 0.012in. Diameter (1 Foot) is a nickel-titanium alloy that exhibits shape memory properties, allowing it to flex and contract when subjected to specific heat or electrical current. In its martensitic form, the wire can be bent into various shapes, but upon applying an electrical current of approximately 1.5A or heating to around 100C, it transforms into its austenite form, recovering its original shape with significant force. The wire can also be annealed at about 500C to set a new shape, which it will return to when the appropriate heat or current is applied.
