The Sherline CNC-Ready Lathe Upgrade Kit – 4400 Lathe Z Axis, w/ Screw (“) is designed to transform any existing Sherline lathe into a CNC-ready machine. This conversion requires the user to drill and tap several holes to secure the stepper motor mounts. The kit provides drill blocks that attach to the lathe’s table or bed using an existing hole, guiding the user to drill two additional holes. Once these holes are tapped, the new mount can be installed, and a new leadscrew is required for the lathe’s leadscrew conversion.
This upgrade kit includes essential components such as a stepper motor mount, stepper motor preload bearings, and a CNC coupling. These components enable the lathe to be prepared for CNC control, allowing the user to attach stepper motors and integrate a CNC system. Users must supply their own CNC system, although various aftermarket suppliers offer compatible stepper motors, drivers, and CNC software to complete the setup.
