The Sherline Flanged Cartridge Spindle 3/4-16 #1 Taper, V Belt is crafted from bar stock steel and features a black oxide finish, providing durability and resistance to wear. The spindle shaft is designed with a central hole of 0.405 inches (10mm), allowing for versatile applications. This particular model is equipped with a 3/4-16 #1 Morse taper and a standard 2-step V belt pulley configuration, making it suitable for various machining tasks.
This spindle is engineered with lifetime lubricated bearings that include an adjustable preload, ensuring precision and smooth operation. The bearings are Class 5, which enhances accuracy, reduces noise, and maintains cooler running temperatures. The headstock bearings are capable of sustaining continuous speeds up to approximately 4,000 RPM, with the potential to reach up to 10,000 RPM with a slightly adjusted preload setting.
The spindle is designed for easy installation, featuring a 2.25-inch diameter body that fits through a 2.3-inch hole. It is secured using three mounting holes on a 3.1-inch diameter flange, arranged at 120-degree increments. These holes are designed to accommodate 10-32 x 5/8-inch socket head cap screws, which are provided with the spindle.
While the spindle offers versatility with its through-hole design, it is intended for light-duty applications. Operators should exercise caution when using the spindle for long or out-of-round parts at high RPMs. Additionally, the spindle is equipped with a dust cover, but it is not fully sealed, so exposure to dust from grinding operations should be minimized to prolong bearing life. It is also not suitable for use in a coolant bath, and the spindle shaft should be protected from coolant spray.
