The Sherline Tapered Headstock w/ Flat Base ER-16 V Belt is a precision-engineered component designed for industrial applications, drawing its design from the headstock used in Sherline lathes and milling machines. Constructed from extruded 6061-T6 aluminum, it features a durable black anodized finish. This headstock is equipped with an ER-16 spindle and a 2-step V belt pulley configuration, offering versatility and reliability for various machining tasks.

The headstock incorporates lifetime lubricated bearings with adjustable preload, ensuring enhanced accuracy, tighter tolerances, and smoother operation. These Class 5 bearings are designed to operate at continuous speeds up to approximately 4,000 RPM, with the capability to reach up to 10,000 RPM with a slightly adjusted preload setting. The headstock’s design includes two 1/4-20 mounting holes and an alignment key slot on the base, facilitating secure and precise installation on machinery.

The ER-16 spindle is accompanied by a collet nut and features a dust cover washer to protect the bearings. While the spindle offers a .405-inch through hole for versatility, it is intended for light-duty applications and should not be used with long or out-of-round parts at high RPMs. Operators must assess the suitability and safety of the spindle for their specific tasks. Additionally, the spindle is not fully sealed against dust and should be shielded from coolant spray to prevent premature bearing wear.
