The Sherline 13″ Lathe Crosslide Assembly Manual 4088 (Metric) is designed for individuals seeking to transform their Sherline lathe into a Chucker Lathe or a gang-tooling lathe. This crosslide is notably thicker than the standard model, measuring .870 inches in thickness, compared to the standard 6-inch crosslide which is .625 inches thick. This increased thickness necessitates the use of a headstock riser plate to align the tooling with the headstock.
The 13-inch crosslide is capable of accommodating multiple gang-tooling tool posts, making it ideal for specialized machining tasks. However, it is not advisable to use this crosslide as a replacement for standard lathe operations. The additional thickness of the crosslide means that when used in conjunction with a riser plate, the tailstock becomes unusable, as there is no riser available for the tailstock. Consequently, parts cannot be turned between centers, and certain accessories, such as the thread-cutting attachment, are incompatible with this setup.
Included with the 13-inch lathe crosslide is a leadscrew and a standard 1-5/8 inch handwheel, providing the necessary components for its operation.
Note: Exercise caution as the tailstock cannot be used with this crosslide, and some accessories may not be compatible.
